What is Restylane?

Restylane is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body's own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines that run from your nose toward the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corners of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines).

Additionally, Restylane and Restylane® Silk are FDA-approved for lip enhancement in patients over the age of 21 and are uniquely formulated to give your lips fullness and definition.

How does Restylane work?

The Restylane range of products is designed to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid, HA, is a molecule that offers support and structure to our tissues throughout the body, including our skin, protecting it from damage.  HA keeps our skin hydrated and firm through its ability to bind water molecules.

However, as we age, the natural production of HA by our bodies changes. Our skin can become thinner, dehydrated and less firm, losing its radiance and youthful appearance.

The Restylane range utilizes two technologies to stabilize highly pure HA into a gel form that allows it to last long in the skin, smoothing the surface, and providing lift and support where needed.

What are the possible side effects?

The most common side effects include treatment site reactions such as swelling, bruising, redness, pain, and tenderness. These side effects generally disappear within one week after injection. Other potential side effects can occur with dermal filler or Skinboosters injections. You should discuss the potential treatment risks with your healthcare practitioner.
