Men Deserve Self-Care Too

It’s no secret that the health and beauty world is directed toward the female population more than males. With all the stresses of modern life, women aren’t the only ones who need time to decompress and take care of themselves.

For our beloved husbands, fathers, brothers and male friends who generally put others' needs before theirs, it’s time to prioritize some well-deserved pampering.

Let’s normalize Men’s self-care- because self care is for EVERYONE.

Why self-care for men is so important.

For both males and females, Self-care not only improves physical well-being, but is essential for a healthy mental state. Simply put, it’s difficult to authentically show up for others if we don’t show up for ourselves first.

Taking time for self-care may not appeal to those men who feel like they don’t need it. However, this has had long-term consequences over the years, like having shorter lifespans than women.

Practicing self-care helps you to be a better version of yourself and live a happier, healthier life.

What does self-care look like for men?

Self-care can look different for each individual depending on their wants and needs. For some, self-care could look like a relaxing bubble bath, for others it could be a hard sweat-session at the gym.

There are different types of self-care to keep in mind as well: self-care in the physical aspect, and self care in the mental aspect.

Practicing deep breathing, painting, meditating, or playing music all help to calm the busy mind. Exercising the body helps to promote self-confidence and higher levels of energy.

Whatever you love or what lifts you up, this can be your unique type of self-care.

Ideas for practicing self-care

Having a hard time thinking of what to do for self-care? Start by making a list of the things that make you feel good about yourself.

Take at least 10-15 minutes out of your day to practice one of these things.

Some examples could be taking a walk on the beach, going for a surf, cooking a meal, or having a relaxing shower. Perhaps developing a simple skincare routine to nourish your skin after a hard day at work.

Whatever it is that makes you feel good, do it!

Skincare as self-care

Seeing as the skincare industry tends to target women as main consumers, taking care of your skin as a male can often be overlooked.

However, taking care of the skin should be for everyone. Skin is the largest organ and is essential to general health. Taking care of your skin everyday may motivate you to make healthier choices in other areas of life.

It’s no secret that looking good can make you feel good. Having a daily skincare routine helps you to look your best and be your best self when you go out into the world.

Self-care is not selfish

Following through with daily self-care for men and women can be easier said than done when guilt gets in the way.

Self-care means taking time for yourself, which may mean saying no to other people.

That time you take to practice self-care instead of spending time with family and friends can sometimes lead to feelings of shame. But trust us when we say that the time you do spend after taking care of yourself allows you to be more present for loved ones.

You shouldn’t feel bad for taking time out of your day to care for yourself. You deserve it!
